JOB DESCRIPTION
The focal point for risk communication will report directly to the technical manager
in charge of operations and under the coordination of the Response Manager.
He/she will work in close collaboration with the technical managers concerned and the risk communication teams of the affected health districts and regions. He/She has front-line responsibility for promoting effective risk communication strategies and plans, implementing risk communication activities and reporting on this area of ​​work.
Job Description
Provide advice on risk communication. He/she will work in close collaboration with the personnel deployed in the country in Emergencies.
Intervene as a risk communication focal point during epidemics and emergency situations:
– Supervise the development and implementation of the risk communication plan as part of health response operations.
– Identify key health risks and develop relevant information, education and communication materials in languages ​​and formats easily used by national stakeholders and the public.
– Ensure close liaison with partners and any other stakeholders for risk communication, ensuring consistency between the strategy, documents and messages.
– Ensure that the technical material produced integrates risk communication principles and practices.
– Proactively monitor and counter false rumors and disinformation; and respond to rumors and Concerns.
– Work closely with communications officers at operational level to integrate knowledge findings; attitude and practice (CAP) surveys.
– In collaboration with the communications manager, proactively inform and educate journalists and broadcasters.
– Lead and maintain quality control for risk communication products such as brochures, flyers and posters; radio and television scripts; guides for stakeholders to communicate about risks, and ensure their translation into the local language and their adaptation,
– In close collaboration with communications managers at operational levels, map and mobilize stakeholders in risk communication; establish and maintain coordination
– Map existing/preferred communication channels in the country with a focus on vulnerable groups.
– Support the strengthening of national capacities in emergency risk communication to train and prepare at the level of counterpart countries for emergency risk communication.
– Help national authorities bring together all stakeholders and co-develop a communication strategy and plan.
– Perform any other related incident-specific tasks as required by the functional supervisor.
Recruitment profile
Essential:
First university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in social sciences, behavioral sciences, development sciences, communications or public health from an accredited/recognized institute
Desirable
University degree (master’s degree or higher) in social sciences, health sciences behavior, developmental sciences, communications or public health from an accredited/recognized institute.
Public health training, health education, health communication or health promotion.
Experience
– At least two (2) years of experience in the field of risk communication, health promotion, emergency management, part of which in the field of disease, epidemics or other health emergencies.
– Proven experience in developing and implementing risk communications strategies
– and plans.
– Excellent knowledge of French, knowledge of local languages ​​is highly desirable.
– Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
The position will be based in Niamey with frequent field missions.
